Mac app
Native macOS app
Pair your phone, manage the service, and change settings from the menu bar. Optional power controls can keep your Mac awake on external power while the desktop service is running.

Headless service
macOS & Linux
Prefer a service without a desktop app? Run Shellbell under your user’s service manager: launchd on macOS or systemd on Linux. Linux sessions use tmux.
Read output, switch sessions, send input, and open notifications to return to your work. Use the same free app with the project relay or one you host yourself.
Yes. Shellbell is a free, open-source project with no ads, paywalls, or data mining. If you choose to self-host a relay, your own infrastructure and notification provider requirements remain your responsibility.
Can I use Windows as my computer?
A Windows computer service is planned. The supplied computer options are the native macOS app and headless macOS or Linux service. See GitHub Releases for the platform support of each artifact.
Where are the installation instructions and checksums?
Use the notes and assets attached to the relevant GitHub release. Computer, relay, and mobile versions are tracked separately, so follow the documented compatibility requirements rather than matching version numbers alone.
Can I use my own relay?
Yes. Point your computer and phone at the same custom WSS address. The relay page explains the Cloudflare and standalone server options, including the extra requirements for background push.
